Talk about rare Ford muscle- how about this factory Ram Air 429 Cobra Jet-powered Ranchero GT from my Private Collection?
Besides being cool as heck like any factory Laser-striped, hidden headlight Ranchero GT this one is also a factory 429 cubic inch Cobra Jet Ram Air powered example with a C6 automatic transmission, 1 of 82 such beasts produced. What makes it even more rare is it also has factory air conditioning- one of just a handful so equipped out of the 82.
The functional, factory-installed ram air Shaker hood scoop was standard with the 429 Cobra Jet. This Ranchero also has a host of other great factory options beyond A/C including hidden headlights, the Laser side stripes, 3.25:1 rear gear, power steering, power disc brakes, fat G70-14 RWL tires, body color “racing” mirrors, the funky in-dash horizontal 8K-rpm tachometer, an AM radio and tinted windows all around. It is certainly a one-of-a-kind car. Err, I mean truck. Umm, well, you get it.
This Cobra Jet hauler came to us in great original condition, a rust-free Colorado vehicle no less, fully numbers matching right down to the factory Quadrajet carburetor that is almost always missing. We proceeded to completely go through the cosmetics, including new paint and interior done right here in my shop, go through and restore the complete cooling, suspension, and fuel systems, put on a new dual exhaust, and most importantly set it up to run as a 429 Cobra Jet should. During this restoration I modified two original build features to suit my preferences: we “punched up” the original Medium Yellow paint closer to Grabber Orange and I also decided to not re-install a vinyl top. The factory Ginger interior makes the color combo really pop- few vehicles get more attention that this one. And, it is so menacing when viewed from the front it is also a highly effective way to clear the left lane!
It is fully numbers matching, including its original factory-installed engine, transmission, rear end, and all Cobra Jet components. Everything works as new, from the hidden headlight doors to the license plate lamps. There is zero rust, anywhere, and the chassis is as clean as you’ll find. It runs and drives as new, offering tire-smoking performance at a moments notice if you so desire.
Reluctantly offered for sale simply to make room for a few new arrivals, you’d be hard pressed to find a better Cobra Jet Ranchero GT, especially with factory air conditioning and all the other desirable original options this one has.
