Welcome to Colin’s Classic Auto

The Foundation

While first and foremost I am a car collector, I also sell a very small number of extremely special cars to discerning buyers- most coming from my personal collection (some of which can be seen at The Comer Collection Website) when I decide to change up the roster a bit.

My background is somewhat unique. I’m a Jesuit educated guy with an automotive engineering degree who was studying architecture.  But despite all that, I decided at a young age that I’d rather be turning wrenches or doing bodywork. That led to working in most every aspect of the automotive world, with a lot of GoJo and lacquer thinner usually involved to clean my hands at the end of the day! In 1991 I founded Colin’s Classic Auto and never looked back. Cars are the great equalizer and I’ve met so many amazing people I now call friends as a result. From tow truck drivers to movie stars to rock legends to presidents of car companies and, well, even royalty. All because of our shared love of cars.

I also love writing about collector cars. I’ve authored eight best-selling and critically acclaimed books to date, and my writing is regularly featured in publications such as the New York Times, Business Week, USA Today, and others. I am a Contributing Editor to Road & Track Magazine, as well as having served as Editor-at-Large for Sports Car Market and American Car Collector Magazines for well over a decade. For 18 years I did seminars, events, writing, and was a part of the valuation team for Hagerty. In 2012 AutoWeek named me as an automotive industry “Mover and Shaker” for my contributions to the collector car world and my writing, including those books I authored (shameless plug: Colin Comer Books Website) Oh, and my “Shelby Cobra Fifty Years” was named “The greatest car book of all time” by Esquire magazine. Much to the amazement of some of those Jesuits, I might add.

Shopping Advice

Chances are, because of the small number of cars I sell you won’t end up buying a car from me. So no matter where you buy from my advice is to be diligent. Educate yourself on the particular make and model you seek. Research the car at hand. Align yourself with a trusted expert. Auction descriptions and advertisements can often be deceptive, fantasy or, at minimum, contain serious sins of omission. As my good friend and noted “car guy’s car guy” Bruce Meyer says “buy the best and only cry once!”

The Goods

Browse my current listings on my inventory page. As mentioned, I could be the lowest volume collector car “dealer” on the planet, so it won’t take long to see what I have up for grabs- if anything. If you don’t see what you want listed please email me, as I know of a lot of cars out  there that never hit the internet or an auction to be sold.

Consulting

Yep, I do that! I can help with authentication, inspection, consulting and auction or private party acquisition services. Or, if you have a great car or collection that you’ve decided to sell I can help with that, too. I’m always a cash buyer for great cars. To start any of these conversations or processes just shoot me an email at colin@colinsclassicauto.com Again since this enterprise is strictly part-time, email is far better than calling as I’m usually off doing some car thing somewhere or writing, so I tend to get way behind on returning calls.
