Upgraded 1965 Sunbeam Tiger Mk1A – TAC Certified

*SOLD*

I sold this super sweet and super swift original California Black Plate Mk.1A Tiger to a good friend 10 years ago and just took it back on trade. After all, around here, family is always welcome! It remains one of my favorite Tigers not only for its great “bones” (California born and raised, after all) but also for the smart and sensible upgrades it received from its previous owner. It was built to be a safe, fast, and reliable Tiger that is more than happy to chase 289 Cobras.

And, before we go any further, yes it is a TAC’d STOA certified real Tiger wearing TAC #255. A screenshot of it being in the STOA TAC Registry is included here.

Under the hood is a nicely warmed over 302 CID engine with a roller cam and valvetrain, topped with an Edelbrock Performer intake and a small Holley 4bbl. It also has a slick set of exhaust headers, an exhaust with Borla SS mufflers, and other logical upgrades including a stout Griffin aluminum radiator. The original 4 speed Toploader trans is still in place, and a very trick torque arm system is installed that eliminates the famous Tiger wheelhop issue. The original dual saddle fuel tanks were removed and a single ATL fuel cell was mounted in the trunk for safety. The original fuel tanks, crossover tube, hardware and trunk board are all included with the sale.

Real Panasport wheels are fitted, a bigger front anti-roll bar, Koni adjustable (red) shocks, custom springs, and corrected front steering geometry really dial in the ride and handling.

The body is super straight and solid with no signs of any rust. While it left the factory in white it was painted black many years ago, and also has the LAT style hood as you can see. It has both the factory optional hardtop as well as a newer black soft top. On the inside it is all nice and tidy stock Tiger fare with all original upholstery, new carpet, and an upgraded tach (to meet the capabilities of the easy-revving roller engine) and an upgraded temp gauge (for accuracy.) Both original gauges are included.

In addition it comes with its original owner’s manual and warranty card showing that it was sold new at Peter Pan Motors in San Francisco California on 11/21/1966.

This is a killer Tiger for somebody who wants to have a great, real-deal TAC’d Tiger but also appreciates one that is considerably faster and more fun to throw around than a bone-stock example. It is also offered here at a price point that, in my humble opinion, makes it a total no-brainer if you are that person!
