As a life-long Land Cruiser nut this FJ40 just blows me away. Read on and see why!
Mr. Wilbur A. Hanson purchased this very rare 1969 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-40 (L) Factory Soft Top new on August 5, 1969, at the famous Con-Ferr Toyota of Burbank, California. It remained in his possession for use at the Hanson family’s vacation cabin at Shaver Lake near Fresno, California, for almost 46 years, only being sold by the Hanson family after Mr. Hanson’s passing.
More importantly, this original California FJ-40 Soft Top has just under 29,000 original miles and is in impressive unrestored condition, still wearing its original Freeborn Red paint and California Black Plates. When new, Mr. Hanson had Con-Ferr install its “C-F” single-hoop roll bar and Warn locking front hubs, both items that remain on the truck today and are referenced on the original purchase contract. Power is supplied by its original 3.9L F-Series inline-6 mated to its original 3-speed manual gearbox.
Since leaving the Hanson’s family care, comprehensive maintenance has been performed, insuring this FJ-40 FST runs and drives just as an extremely low-mileage unrestored original Land Cruiser should. Documentation includes the original Con-Ferr sales invoice from August 1969 (original purchase price of $3,000 including tax, title, license, roll bar and Warn hubs with $500 down and $2,500 financed by the Bank of Tokyo), the original Toyota Motor Company “Packing List” (build sheet), as well as the original Owner’s Manual, Service Booklet and even the one-page original Toyota Motor Company vehicle warranty certificate. Also included is the original showroom brochure that Mr. Hanson saved featuring a Freeborn Red 1969 FJ-40 Soft Top. The original toolkit and jack are also present, along with numerous service records for the vehicle. Mr. Hanson’s beloved FJ-40 L Factory Soft Top could very well be the finest unrestored example in existence, not to mention perhaps the lowest-mileage one as well. Add to that nearly five decades in the original owner’s care and it is certainly easy to see why this is a clearly special example of one of the most sought-after FJ-40 models of all time.
