This is one of the coolest GTOs I’ve ever owned. With Scott Tiemann’s help I purchased this car from the son of the original owner in 2005. His dad special ordered it for street racing and was delivered to him new in the summer of ’65. The options are unreal, factory 3×2, TI ignition, close ratio M21 4 speed, 3.90 posi, metallic brakes, buckets with no console, no undercoat, no sound deadening etc. Within weeks of delivery he had a Bobcat Kit installed by Gil’s Auto Clinic- documented with the original receipt. I have a pic of the car at the drag strip after that, factory wheels up front, chrome reverse rims with drag slicks on the back. He then went to Vietnam, came home, then went back for another tour. When he returned again it was family time. As a result the GTO had sat in his garage, near Detroit, since 1970 or so. At the time it had just turned 15,000 miles from new.

When I bought it it went right to Scott’s shop for a frame-off “cleaning” and complete mechanical going through. Dan Jensen rebuilt the original engine, Scott rebuilt the rest as needed to return the car to as-new health after it sat for so many decades. The only refinishing was a fresh OE correct finish on the frame and detailing of the suspension.

The body is 100% original factory paint. The interior is 100% original less the headliner which had a mouse hole and was replaced. Trunk mat and all weatherstrip is 100% original. All glass is original. The only other thing that was replaced beyond the headliner was the underhood pad. I have all of the invoices from Scott detailing everything he did.

The car is 100% numbers matching. No BS. No stories. The undercarriage is unreal. Mint original paint on the floors. Original oil change stickers from the 1960s in the door jamb. I could go on but you get the idea.

The paperwork is the best part though. Everything from the original cancelled checks, the window sticker, envelope the title came in, books, POP, etc is there.

The car is pictured in the book “GTO: The Great One” as well as a few others. Today it has 15,700 miles and is sitting in my shop totally dialed in and ready for the next owner to enjoy. I may be biased but I don’t think there is a better optioned, better documented, more original ’65 GTO Tri-Power hardtop in existence.
