1988 Pontiac Fiero GT 5 Speed 1-Owner 47k Miles

This 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT is from the Fiero’s final production year, the undisputed technological pinnacle for the model. It is one of just 6,848 Fiero GTs, the top trim level, that were built in 1988. Theses 1988s benefit from all of the running changes implemented over the five-year production run that transformed these “commuter cars” into sports cars. The most crucial 1988 update is Pontiac’s vastly improved, one-year-only multi-link suspension setup that is reported to have cost GM in excess of $30,000,000 to engineer. This cost was justified as they had the intention to continue the Fiero from the 1988 model year through the mid-1990s, but with predicted doom and gloom for the auto industry, General Motors brought the now-excellent Fiero to an end in March of 1988.

While not revolutionary, the GT’s straight-line performance was certainly ample with 0-60 in 7.5 seconds, and thanks to the improved handling, it was now possible to utilize the full potential of the 2.8L OHV V6 and Getrag 5-speed manual transmission. This tight handling and roaring exhaust note could now transform any backroad into an amusement park for the driver. A low seating position, in-your-face comprehensive gauge cluster and the high center tunnel provided a cocooned atmosphere that emulated a fighter jet cockpit; the wings on the steering wheel center cap subliminally adding to that feeling.

Yet a bare-bones sports car the Fiero GT was not. It featured optional amenities like power windows, air conditioning, and leather seats, all which make for a great touring car or daily driver. Of course the Fiero with its iconic wedge styling and quintessential pop-up headlights will bring back the 1980s nostalgia for anyone who was fortunate enough to live through the inception of synthesized music and hair-do balancing acts.

This Fiero GT, one of the much more desired 3,799 5-Speed examples produced, is ready for its new owner to use and enjoy as the emerging classic it is. With just one owner from new and just 47,000 original miles it is truly an exception to the condition most Fieros are in today.

With the popularity of sporty 1980s and 1990s cars literally exploding, the Fiero is certainly one to watch with values already rapidly rising. And, as the rarest and most desirable model and year Fiero ever made, this exceptional 1988 GT 5-Speed is one to seriously consider. For those of us of a certain age there isn’t a much better way to relive the 1980s. I know I certainly forgot how much fun these are to drive, and just how sporty a 2.8L V6 can sound barking through a low-restriction exhaust and four megaphone tips!

So, in the vernacular of the day, like, if you want a totally awesome car for like almost no money it’d be hard to go wrong with this bitchin’ Fiero!
