Classic American Sports Car
This 1966 GT 350, 6S1693, is one of just 98 cars to leave the factory in Candyapple Red with White LeMans stripes. It is also a factory 4 speed car, with the very rare painted Magnum 500 wheels. Although the painted wheels were standard equipment for 1966, fewer than 2% of all cars left the factory with them! 1693 has the optional fold-down rear seat, but oddly enough, was also ordered with the "radio delete" option. A weird combination to be sure!
1693 had traveled through 6 owners and a little over 50,000 miles before we purchased it in July, 2010. Like most of the cars in the collection, 1693 is a great original car that has stood the test of time. Unlike most GT 350's, this one retains its original factory installed engine, drivetrain, interior, sheetmetal, and all of its unique Shelby components that make a GT 350, well, a GT 350! In fact, the engine has never been removed from the car and it still runs and drives literally like new- a testament to its prior owner's care, obviously. Nothing drives like a well cared for, unrestored car- which is why since 1693 has joined the fleet it has been our favorite daily driver! It has even been exercised for more than a few laps around Road America.
1693's older repaint is cracking, her driver's seat has a split seam, and she's a little rough around the edges. Wonderful, isn't it?
