1965 Corvette 396/425HP Coupe: This Silver Pearl beauty is one of very few first year Big Block Vettes. As you know, the 1965 396 cubic inch, 425 advertised horsepower cars were a one-year-only model. As such, Corvette purists have always favored the legendary 396 cars. Known to be more raw and faster than the 427/425 cars that suceeded them, there is something to be said for these brutal mid-year missles.
This particular car is unique as it is not only fully documented from day one, but also equipped perfectly for its intended use and in absolutely amazing and unrestored condition. The original owner specified nothing but go-fast hardware for this baby, L78 396/435 Turbo Jet engine,M20 4 speed transmission, K66 Transistorized Ignition, N11 Offroad (undercar) Exhaust, F40 Special Heavy Duty Suspension, and the ultra-rare G81 4.56:1 Positraction rear axle. Comfort and convenience options were limited to just one- an AM/FM radio with power antenna!
With just 35,000 original and documented miles from new, this car is simply awe-inspiring. With nearly all original paint (some areas have been blended over the years), it is otherwise completely untouched, down to the original mufflers! The engine has never been out of the car, and simply runs like new. It is incredibly fast, with no problems whatsoever. It goes without saying, but just to clarify - this car is 100% ORIGINAL and NUMBERS MATCHING including every component, glass, weatherstrips,all 4 original shocks, etc. The interior is untouched mint original, carpet, seats, dash, etc. Even the clock still works perfectly!
More amazing than all of the above is the extensive paperwork with this Vette. I have a binder that is ove 2" thick of documents! Contained within is the ORIGINAL window sticker, original sales contract to the first owner (a Boeing aircraft engineer, with a note about the check coming from the Boeing Credit Union!), Protect-O-Plate, full books and book bag, service and maintainence reciepts back to 1965, even paperwork for every time the car found a new owner! A full list of owner history along with comprehensive notes taken during conversations with every one of them and current contact info is in there.
The most recent owner of this incredible 396 Coupe is a well-known NCRS Judge. Prior to his ownership (as well as during it) the car gathered a number of NCRS Second and Top Flight awards , from 1986-on. Not bad for an UNRESTORED car!
This is one of the undisputed top ten Corvette performers of all time, and perhaps one of the best unrestored examples of such. This car is flat out incredible.
